Start With What You Have Inventory First for Better Cloud Integration

Not every system is built the same and that’s exactly why jumping straight into implementation can create more problems than solutions.

At SoftStackers, one of the first things we do before designing anything is simple:

we take a step back and look at what’s already there.

“Even small oversights in cloud setup can impact performance and user experience. The goal is to build systems that are reliable, scalable, and easy to operate from day one.”

— Ben Rodrigue, CEO, SoftStackers

Understanding the Current Environment

In a recent discussion, we reviewed a mix of camera systems across multiple locations. These included platforms like Hikvision, Honeywell, FLIR, and other NVR/DVR-based systems.

On the surface, they all do the same thing capture video and images.

But once you dig in, the differences start to show:

  • Some support standard formats like JPEG or MP4

  • Others rely on proprietary formats

  • Some have APIs or cloud access

  • Others are limited to local storage or manual exports

And that’s where things get interesting.

Why This Step Matters

It’s easy to assume you can plug everything into the cloud and it will just work but that’s rarely the case.

Different systems mean different integration paths. Some will be straightforward, others will need workarounds, and a few might require completely different approaches.

That’s why identifying the easiest systems to integrate first is key. It allows you to:

  • Move faster

  • Validate the use case early

  • Avoid overcomplicating the initial build

What We Focus On First

Instead of trying to solve everything at once, we prioritize:

  • Systems that support standard formats (like JPEG)

  • Platforms with network or API access

  • Setups that can easily connect to cloud storage

From there, we build momentum then handle the more complex systems later.

We don’t design in a vacuum.

We design based on what actually exists in your environment.

That starts with understanding your hardware, your workflows, and your constraints before writing a single line of code.

Platforms succeed when AWS infrastructure is thoughtfully designed, monitored, and optimized. SoftStackers partners with businesses to deliver environments that are fast, secure, and scalable so teams can focus on innovation, not firefighting.
